WHAT IS DIABETES?
Diabetes or Diabetes Mellitus or Diabetes Type 2 is a condition where the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar). It can be due to:
- a) Inadequate insulin production, or
- b) the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or
- c) both a and c.
It was previously known as non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), or adult onset diabetes mellitus (AODM).
Earlier it was said that mostly people over 30 years old are prone to get diabetes and the incidence increases with age.
But the prevailing poor eating habits, obesity, lack of exercise have resulted in occurrence of diabetes in young adults too. This is an alarming sign!
It is also called as 'Silent disease' since you may not know if your blood sugar level increase. There might be vague symptoms such as tiredness, dizziness, muscle pain etc.

FEW OF OUR AMAZING REMEDIES FOR DIABETES INCLUDES:
Phosphoric acid: corresponds to diabetes of nervous origin; the urine is increased, perhaps milky in colour and containing much sugar. Great debility and bruised feeling in the muscles. There will be loss of appetite, sometimes unquenchable thirst and perhaps the patient will be troubled with boils.
Conium: especially if Diabetes is accompanied by weakness of body and mind, difficulty walking because of trembling and weakness, and dizziness.
Kreosotum: Diabetes with vaginal infections in women. Burning in soles. Senile gangrene. Small wounds bleed profusely.
Diabetes is a metabolic disease where the utilization and disposal of food is deranged.
Consider glucose, amino acids and fatty acids as simple fuels required to run our body. These fuels are derived from the digestion of foods that we eat.
In order to use all these fuels in the factory of our body cells, it is essential to have a hormone called insulin available in the blood stream.
This hormone is produced in a gland called pancreas, located in the abdomen. If we think of our body cells as a factory and the fuels as raw materials, the lack of insulin can be visualized as a lock-out factory.
Thus the fuels cannot be processed and get accumulated in the blood stream.
When glucose accumulates in large amounts and exceeds the level of 180 to 200 mg percent in the blood stream, it starts spilling over through the kidneys into the urine.
Diabetes is diagnosed because of elevated blood glucose and presence of glucose in the urine.
Types of diabetes:
- Type 1 diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes
- Type 2 diabetes or non-insulin-dependent diabetes
The most common form of diabetes is type 2 diabetes, accounting for 95% of diabetes cases in adults.
Type 2 diabetes also used to be called adult-onset diabetes, but with increasing obesity in kids, more teenagers are now developing type 2 diabetes.
Individual with type 2 diabetes can make their own insulin in the pancreas, but the insulin that is produced is not used as effectively by the body.
You may not have any symptoms for years. You may experience vague symptoms like tiredness, muscle pain, headache, etc. Hence it is also known as ‘silent disease’.
Eventually one may have the following symptoms:
- Frequent urination: As excess glucose present in blood in Diabetes, the kidneys react by flushing it out of the blood and in the urine. This leads to increased urine formation and hence frequent urination..
- Extreme thirst: Due to increase in urination you are likely to be thirsty more often.
- Increased hunger: Glucose is not utilized by your cells due to lack of insulin. Hence you don’t get energy to which your body responds as increased hunger.
- Unexplained weight loss: As your body is not making insulin it searches for another energy source (the cells aren't getting glucose!). Muscle tissue and fat are broken down for energy resulting in weight loss.
- Fatigue: Lack of energy makes you feel tired.
- Numbness: Excessive glucose in the body leads to nerve damage. Hence you may experience tingling and/or numbness in your hands and feet.
- Sores that are slow to heal: When there is more sugar in your body, its ability to heal can be undermined.
- Increased infections: The disease fighting capacity reduces and you are more prone to get infections. Women get urinary and vaginal infections more often.
- Sexual dysfunction among men: Men over 50, you may experience frequent or constant sexual dysfunction (erectile dysfunction).
The pancreas produces insulin, a hormone that controls the amount of glucose in the blood. In Diabetes type 2 the body develops resistance to the effects of insulin, so there is not enough insulin to meet the body's needs.
The sugar instead of moving into your cells where it's needed for energy, it builds up in the bloodstream.
The exact reason for the development of resistance to insulin is yet unknown.
Many medical, lifestyle, work and food factors play a role in development of diabetes.
The less controlled diabetes, higher is the risk for complications.
TISSUE OR ORGAN AFFECTED | COMPLICATIONS |
Blood vessels | Chest pain, stroke, hardening of arteries (atherosclerosis), gangrene of feet, erectile dysfunction (impotence) and infections |
Eyes | Blurring of vision or blindness (Diabetic retinopathy), cataract, glaucoma |
Kidneys | Kidney failure |
Nerves | Weakness in legs, reduced sensation, tingling, numbness |
Skin |
Poor healing of wounds Recurrent skin infections |
Connective tissue |
Carpel tunnel syndrome Dupuytren contracture |
There are some acute complications of Diabetes which occur over a short period of time and suddenly.
- Hypoglycaemia or low blood sugar.
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) - sudden increase in blood sugar levels. This can lead to coma or death, if not detected and treated promptly.
Homeopathy improves general health of a diabetic. The symptoms caused by deranged insulin secretion are well controlled with homeopathy. This will lead to a general well-being of a diabetic.
Homeopathic medications are selected after a detailed case study and a right remedy is administered.
Homeopathy is best alternative mode of treatment for Diabetes type 2 along with your regular conventional medicines.
Diabetes being a trouble itself causes many other complications. Homeopathic medicines help you prevent those dreadful conditions.
A homeopathic doctor will prescribe a constitutional remedy that is best suited to you and help to alleviate the symptoms.
